October
In October of 2015, Columbia and the surrounding areas experienced a devastating natural disaster with over 20 inches of rain in less than two days. This amount of rainfall produced record flash flooding leading to the loss of nineteen lives and millions of dollars in property across North and South Carolina. Total damage from this storm ultimately reached $2 billion. Reflections did not escape the devastation. The Mirror Lake and Otter Lake dams were over run with flood water resulting in the failure of both dams and loss of both lakes. With the loss of the Mirror Lake dam our community was split in two for over two years. The photo galleries below offer a glimpse into the devastation and the process of rebuilding the dams and reuniting our community. The links to the right will take you to articles providing much more details about this catastrophic event. The link on the left will take you to more photos showing the process of rebuilding the dams.
